I am building an aquaponics set up at home which is designed to scale up. Rather than buy different sized pumps I was pleased to discover I can get a variable speed pump that can be matched to whatever the needs.
My search led me to the Jebao DC 6000 water pump which gives me control and does it at a budget price. I've been running it for a month now as I've been playing with my system and let me assure you that it's been given a real beating in that time without misssing a step.
I say a beating because my system is a little complicated being engineered for an awkward location in the back yard. It's pushing several thousand litres over 20+ metres of 50mm pvc pipe. In addition there have been many stoppages for work by me which means the pump has had to cope with being stopped and restarting the volume against a decent mass of inert water. It's done it without a complaint so far.
It's early days yet, only 1 month in, but I'm very happy with the performance so far.
Additional comments:
- I bought 2 at the time for less than I would have paid for 1 in Australia if I could have bought it here. Thanks Fishstreet
- It is a quiet machine. You can only hear it submersed when standing next to my sump. In fact the water flowing around my system at different points is louder than the pump
- The electricity demand seems to be low

This is an extremely silent and very good pump! Unbelievable for this low price! It hardly makes any noise, and no vibrations at all. When you let it run on the lowest speed, it only consumses 18 watt (I've tested it with an voltage meter) and you still have more than 2300 liter/minute flowing out of it. Without any doubt, the best pump on the market for an unbeatable price!!!

DC-12000 - so far so good
Replaced a defective Waveline DC-6000 with the Jebao DC-12000. It is not as silent as the smaller pumps; but hey, its pushes a massive amount of water and it works very well!
